crope by balson

the crope is a hat sculpture i made. it is an abstraction of a crow and a pope hat. the dove is a traditional depiction of the voice of god. i replaced the dove with a crow with multiple beaks. i enjoy that it is only a subtle connection to the pope hat and i think the menacing quality carries the tone of the work even if the content cannot be directly understood.

Medium: cardboard india ink craft paper
Tags: crope
another machbook creature by balson

i make a ton of these, usualy less ornate(a stamp of the pachyderm with some hand done linework) and i leave them places or give them to people. the machbook is a powerfull symbol for me, it has a zen duality to it, you can burn down a house with it or you can lite a fire and keep warm, its the untaped potentail that draws me too it. the way the matchbook is recived ads content as well. if you find them randomly the content is about finding beauty in your surroundings. i used to exchange them for ciggarettes as well, the objects them selves are both reletively worthless and i realised what is realy being exchanged is a random act of kindness.

Medium: contey wash and pen on matchbook.
Tags: matchbook
village of ghosts by balson

another pachyderm picture. while painting the pachyderm it always starts out as a portrait or figurative work. this leeds me to belive that the pachyderm is a post apocolyptic creature because it cannot exist without the removal of man. 2' x 2'

Medium: acrylic on wood
Tags: pachyderm
